The song has been covered by many artists, including Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, The Pogues, The Ramblin' Riversiders, The Country Gentlemen, Willy DeVille, Van Morrison, Bob Seger, and Bruce Springsteen on his 2006 album We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.
