The track was the fourth single released from the band's 2003 album Elephunk and originally appeared on the album under the title "Let's Get Retarded". This version was included as a bonus track on the 2004 re-issue of the album. "Let's Get It Started" won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2005 Grammy Awards, and was also nominated for Record of the Year and Best Rap Song.
