The 2004 Portland mayoral election was held on November 2, 2004, to elect the mayor of Portland, Oregon. Tom Potter was elected, defeating challenger Jim Francesconi. Incumbent mayor Vera Katz did not seek a fourth term. Municipal elections in Oregon are non-partisan. The non-partisan primary was held on May 18, 2008. Because no candidate received a majority of the vote in the primary, the top two finishers advanced to the November general election.
