Silesian Voivodeship

The Silesian Voivodeship or Silesia Province (Polish: województwo śląskie [vɔjɛˈvut͡stfɔ ˈɕlɔ̃skʲɛ]), is a voivodeship or province, in southern Poland, centered on the historic region known as Upper Silesia (Górny Śląsk), with Katowice serving as its capital. Despite its name, most of the historical Silesia region lies outside of the voivodeship (spread between the Lubusz, Lower Silesian, Opole Voivodeships) while the eastern half of the voivodeship (and, notably, Częstochowa in the north) was not historically part of Silesia but rather Lesser Poland.
