Spijk, Groningen

Spijk (Dutch pronunciation: [spɛik]; 53°23′N 6°50′E / 53.383°N 6.833°E) is a town in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is a part of the municipality of Delfzijl, and lies about 26 kilometres (16 mi) northeast of Groningen. In 2001, the town of Spijk had 1132 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.50 km2 (0.19 sq mi), and contained 475 residences.The statistical area "Spijk", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 1250.
