If I Needed Someone

"If I Needed Someone" is a song written by English rock musician George Harrison and first recorded by the Beatles. Versions by the Beatles and the Hollies appeared simultaneously, both being released in the United Kingdom on 3 December 1965. The Beatles' recording was issued on the band's Rubber Soul album, except for in North America, where it was one of the tracks that Capitol Records omitted from that album and instead included on the 1966 release Yesterday and Today. The Hollies' version was issued as the A-side of a single. It became a modest hit by their previous standards, peaking at number 20 in the UK. Accompanying the release, Harrison was highly critical of the Hollies' performance of the song, leading to a terse exchange in the press between the two groups.
