Two tea bowls
Wide bowls were used in the summer, for they helped to cool the tea a little in the heat. The decoration on the bowl with light-brown mottling is sometimes compared to partridge plumage and contrasts beautifully with the vessel’s severe, angular form. The elegant painting on the other bowl probably represents a sprig of wisteria.
