Cap with painted floral design
In the 18th century men wore wigs, which were customarily taken off at home. As protection from the cold they would then wear an – often finely ornamented – cap indoors. This is the only preserved example of one made of chintz: a handpainted cotton fabric with a glazed finish. The Dutch East India Company (VOC) imported Chintz from India.
