The órfãs d'el-rei (Portuguese: [ˈɔɾfɐ̃ʒ dɛlˈʁej], orphans of the king) were Portuguese girl orphans who were sent from Portugal to overseas colonies during the Portuguese Empire as part of Portugal's colonization efforts. The orphans were married to native rulers or Portuguese settlers.
