The 2016–17 Welsh Football League Division One season began in August 2016 and featured the following 16 teams: * Afan Lido * Barry Town United * Caerau Ely * Caldicot Town (promoted) * Cambrian & Clydach * Cwmbran Celtic (promoted) * Goytre (Monmouthshire) * Goytre United * Haverfordwest County * Monmouth Town * Penybont * Port Talbot Town (relegated from the Welsh Premier League as they were refused a WPL Licence) * Risca United * Taffs Well * Ton Pentre * Undy Athletic Aberdare Town were also demoted to the Welsh League Division Two.
