Ashanti Johnson

Ashanti Johnson is an American geochemist and chemical oceanographer.[1] She is theExecutive Director of the Institute for Broadening Participation and theAssistant Vice Provost for Faculty Recruitment for the University of Texas atArlington's Division of Faculty Affairs. Dr. Johnson received her B.S. (1993) in MarineScience from Texas A&MUniversity-Galveston (TAMUG) and her Ph.D. (1999) in Oceanography from Texas A&M University(TAMU). She was the first African American student body president at TAMUG. Sheis also one of the first female African-American chemical oceanographers in thecountry, and the first African-American to earn a doctoral degree inoceanography from TAMU.
