Company A, 3rd Rhode Island Heavy Artillery was a heavy artillery regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. During the Civil War, heavy artillery regiments were organized into companies whereas light artillery regiments were organized into batteries. It is, therefore, incorrect to refer to Company A as Battery A.
