The Berggruen Philosophy for Philosophy, administered by the Berggruen Institute, seeks to recognize a living thinker whose ideas are of basic importance for contemporary and future life.The Berggruen Prize for Philosophy carries a cash award of $1 million. The inaugural Berggruen Prize for Philosophy was awarded to Charles Taylor for his contributions that have "fundamentally shaped public discussion of the nature of multiculturalism, secularism and contemporary religious life."
