Currency competition is when various government and private entities each offer different forms of money that compete with each other for use. The most widely observable example today of Currency Competition is the foreign exchange markets where national currencies compete for use in foreign trade. Within countries there only currency competition is between national currencies and Bitcoin and other forms of cryptocurrency. Insofar as one considers highly liquid financial assets as well as gold and silver as "currencies"
