Dark pop is a music genre consisting of melodic pop vocals mixed with lyrical themes that take on content of a dark nature. Generally the musical components are made up by the use of heavy synthesizers generally heard in industrial/goth rock, combined with hip hop/techno drums and a sub bass sound that is clearly defined in the mix. In recent years, the term has been used by the band called the The_Neighbourhood and the Bloom Twins who have coined their music genres as dark pop in 2014.
