Green ribbon
The green ribbon is a symbol used to show support and create awareness for those suffering from various illnesses. For example, the green ribbon is associated with spreading awareness for mitochondrial disease (shortened, mito). This disease occurs when a person's mitochondria in his/her cells cease to work properly, depriving the body of much-needed energy. In 17th Century England during and after the English Civil War the wearing of a sea-green ribbon symbolized affiliation with the ideals of the Levellers and later in the century with radical Whiggism.
