Horsens Municipality

Horsens municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Region Midtjylland on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality includes the island of Endelave, and covers an area of 524.21 km². It has a population of 85,911 (1 April 2014). Its mayor is Peter Sørensen, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Horsens. The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipal Reform") that combined the city of Horsens with a number of existing parishes:
