In 2008, gold was ranked fifth in the list of resources exported by Western Australia in regard to value, behind iron ore, crude oil, alumina and LNG, with a value of A$4.4 billion. In 2008, the state produced 4,200,000 ounces of gold, or 131.421 tonnes. All up, in 2008, Western Australian gold mines employed 14,459 people on their mine sites.
