Pawnee people

The Pawnee are a Midwestern Native American tribe of the Great Plains indigenous to Nebraska and Kansas. In the Pawnee language, the Pawnee people refer to themselves as Parikitaru which translates into Split Horned-ones referring to their traditional warrior hairstyle which was shaved and stiffened up into a mohawk. Historically, the Pawnee were Plains Indians who lived in large palisaded earth lodge villages for farming and used Tipis for traveling. The basis of their culture involved warfare and nomadic buffalo hunting.
