Western sand darter

The western sand darter (Ammocrypta clara) is a species of perch endemic to the central United States from the rivers feeding into Lake Michigan through the Mississippi River basin to the basins of the Sabine and Neches Rivers in Texas. It inhabits sandy sections of flowing waters from streams to large rivers. This species can reach a length of 7.1 cm (2.8 in), though most are only about 4.7 cm (1.9 in) in length.
