1542 Schalén

1542 Schalén, provisional designation 1941 QE, is a dark and reddish asteroid from the outer region of the asteroid belt, about 45 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 26 August 1941, by Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä at Turku Observatory in the southwestern parts of Finland. The asteroid is a member of the Themis family, a dynamical family of outer-belt asteroids with nearly coplanar ecliptical orbits. It has a D-type spectrum, which is more commonly found among Hildian asteroids and Jupiter trojans. Bodies with a D-type spectra are thought to have originated in the Kuiper belt.
