1659 Punkaharju

1659 Punkaharju, provisional designation 1940 YL, is an eccentric, stony asteroid from the outer region of the asteroid belt, about 31 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered by Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä at Turku Observatory on 28 December 1940. It is named after the former municipality of Punkaharju, a well-known and beautiful isthmus region in southeastern Finland (also see Karelian Isthmus).
