In the month of July 2016, a major heat wave began to plague much of the central U.S with record high temperatures. Some places experienced temperatures of up to 39 °C (102 °F). Heat indexes in some places climbed as high as 45 °C (113 °F). Toronto that year reached 30 °C (86 °F) and higher 38 times.
