The Regiment later led to involvement in worldwide military activities in countries such as India, Egypt and South Africa. The regiment is well known for its involvement in the Siege of Lucknow. Their deeds were commemorated by poets such as John Greenleaf Whittier and Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
