89th (The Princess Victoria's) Regiment of Foot
The 89th (The Princess Victoria's) Regiment of Foot was a regiment of the British Army, formed on 3 December 1793. Its nickname was 'Blayney's Bloodhounds'. The nickname stems from 1798 when the regiment was under the command of Lord Blayney and became known for its unerring certainty and untiring perseverance in hunting down Irish rebels during that year's rebellion. The regiment amalgamated with the 87th Foot on 1 July 1881, to form the 2nd Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers.
