Baba akala alwajeb (Arabic: بابا اكل الواجب‎‎, literally "Dad ate my homework") is a common excuse among Arabic-speaking schoolchildren for not being able to turn in their homework assignments. It is the Arabic equivalent of the American English "the dog ate my homework". The phrase is sometimes rendered as "taita akalat alwajeb" ["Grandma ate my homework"].
