It is endemic to California, where it is known from the rocky, barren serpentine slopes of the Klamath Mountains and North Coast Ranges. This is a small, compact annual herb forming clumps a few centimeters wide in rock crevices. The leaves are small, fleshy, and generally red in color, packed densely together about the short stem.
