Fore Street

"Fore Street" is a name often used for the main street of a town or village. Usage is almost entirely confined to the south west of England but it does also occur in some other parts of the country. There is also a Fore Street in Portland, Maine, United States, presumably named by colonists from SW England. The prevalence of streets named "Fore Street" in Cornwall is due to a survival from the Cornish language -"Forth" = "Street". There are over seventy "Fore Streets" in Cornwall and about seventy five in Devon.
