Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar is an autonomous research institution of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India. The Institute is entirely the brainchild of legendary and visionary academic and administrator, Late Professor Bidhu Bhusan Das, who was Director of Public Instruction, Odisha, at that time. Prof. Das had dreamed of a world class institute devoted to physics in Odisha owing to his cognizance of the large number of outstanding professors and scholars of physics from Odisha. Prof. Das set it up in 1972, supported by the Government of Odisha under the patronage of late Shri Banamali Patnaik, who was Odisha's education minister at that time, and it was Prof. Das who chose Dr. Trilochan Pradhan as its first director, when the Institute started theoretical resear
