Jabrayil District

Jabrayil (Cəbrayıl) is a rayon of Azerbaijan. Almost the entire region was occupied in 1993 and has been controlled by the breakway Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, as part of its Hadrut Province, since the Nagorno-Karabakh War. According to the last 1989 Soviet census, there were 49,156 people living in the rayon. According to undated Azerbaijani data, the population of the rayon was 62,100. Jabrail rayon has productive soils, and before the war the population was mostly involved in agriculture. Jabrail shares its southern borders with Iran.
