Kashiwa (柏市 Kashiwa-shi) is a city located in northwestern Chiba Prefecture, Japan. As of December 1, 2015, the city had an estimated population of 411,602 and a population density of 3,590 persons per km2. The total area was 114.72 square kilometres (44.29 sq mi). The name of the city of Kashiwa in the Japanese language is written with a single kanji character, 柏, a reference to Quercus dentata, commonly known in English as the daimyo oak.
