Kilusang Mayo Uno

Kilusang Mayo Uno, or May First Labour Movement (KMU) is an independent labour centre in the Philippines promoting militant unionism. It follows in the fighting tradition of the country's first trade union, the Union Impresores y Litografos de Filipinas (Printers' and Lithographers' Union of the Philippines) in 1892 and the Congress of Labor Organizations (CLO) of the 1950s. It was created on 1 May 1980 during the Marcos regime to represent progressive workers‘ organisations in the country that advocated National Democratic struggle, especially the end of what was seen as US Imperialism.
