Kontiolahti

Kontiolahti is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the North Karelia region, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of Joensuu. The municipality has a population of 14,795 (31 March 2016) and covers an area of 1,029.82 square kilometres (397.62 sq mi) of which 230.1 km2 (88.8 sq mi) is water. The population density is 18.5 inhabitants per square kilometre (48/sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The municipality has previously also been known as "Kontiolax" in Swedish documents, but is today referred to as "Kontiolahti" also in Swedish.
