Nimitz Hill

Nimitz Hill is the home of the United States Navy Commander Naval Forces Marianas located in Asan on the southern half of the island of Guam. It overlooks Agana Bay on its western edge. Chester Nimitz based his headquarters here in January 1945. On August 6, 1997 Korean Air Flight 801 crashed in the Nimitz Hill area. In 2009, the headquarters of Joint Region Marianas, combining the operations of Naval Base Guam and Andersen Air Force Base, was established on Nimitz Hill, which is situated between the two bases.
