Nottingham Castle Gate Hospital

Nottingham's Castle Gate Hospital, 29-31 Castle Gate, was a women's hospital opened to some controversy in 1875: This institution, which has been recently opened, appears to have been started under circumstances which have caused much local professional annoyance. Mr. G. Elder. the surgeon to the Hospital, is reputed to have been the prime mover in the affair; and so quietly was it managed, that, until an announcement appeared one morning in the Nottingham journals stating the fact that a new Hospital for Women had been opened the day before, scarcely a medical man in the neighbourhood had heard that it was likely to come into existence.
