Pei-tian Temple

The Pei-tian Temple (Chinese: 配天宮; pinyin: Pèi tiān gōng) is one of the most famous Mazu temples in Taiwan. Facing to the south, the temple is located at the crossing of Kaiyuan and Guangfu Roads in Puzi City, Chiayi County. The development of Puzi originated from here; Puzi is believed to be the only city built up by Mazu in Taiwan. With the two guardians of Mazu, General Qianliyan (Chinese: 千里眼; pinyin: qiānlǐyǎn; literally: "clairvoyant") and General Shunfenger (Chinese: 順風耳; pinyin: shùnfēng'ěr; literally: "clairaudient"), and Huye (Master Tiger, Chinese: 虎爺; pinyin: hǔyé; literally: "tiger granpa"), Pei-tien Temple plays an essential role in Mazu belief in Taiwan and serves as an important holy destination for pilgrims.
