People's Movement (Lebanon)

The People's Movement (ar:حركة الشعب Harakat-el-shaab) is a Lebanese political party, founded in 2000 by former MP Najah Wakim and a group of intellectuals, journalists, radical leftist and Arab nationalist trade union movements. The People's Movement enjoys a considerable popularity among youth, especially at the American University of Beirut. The Movement is not represented in Parliament since 2000, after the failure of Wakim in the 2005 elections and its withdrawal five years earlier. The movement adopts an Arab nationalist, Nasserist and pro-communist ideology.
