Registro Nacional de Estrangeiros (RNE, Portuguese pronunciation: [ʁeˈʒistɾu nasioˈnaw di/dʒi estɾɐ̃ˈʒejɾus], National Foreigner Registry) is a personal identity document for foreign individuals living temporarily or permanently in Brazil. It has been required since 1938. According to the Ministerial Decree of 1 December 2015, the issuance of such document for refugees and asylum seekers recognised by the Brazilian Government is for free. Citizens of Portuguese-speaking countries are also eligible for fees exemptions.
